Prof Musa Abutudu teaches Political Science at the University of Benin, Nigeria. A well published scholar with interest in political economy and development studies, international relations, African politics and security, he is a former Acting Executive Secretary of the African Association of Political Science in Pretoria, South Africa (February 2003 – October 2004). Prof Abutudu holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Ibadan. His Masters and first degrees in the same discipline were obtained from the Universities of Lagos and Nigeria, respectively. He was a MacArthur Foundation Visiting Scholar on Peace and Security at the University of Texas at Austin, USA (February–May 1996). He was also a Visiting Scholar (Member) at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, New Jersey, USA (September 1997 – June 1998) and a pioneer fellow of CODESRIA’s Democratic Governance Institute, Dakar, Senegal (1992). In 2006, he served as the Director, (Global) South-South Summer Institute on Rethinking Knowledge Production in Africa, Asia and Latin America, held in Dakar, Senegal under the auspices of APISA, CODESRIA and CLACSO. He is currently on sabbatical as Visiting Professor at the Institute for Security Studies, Abuja, Nigeria.
